Here and Now

There are many times that I find myself daydreaming…thinking about something or someone. Reminiscing in my mind of things from my childhood or when my kids were young. Thinking about the ways God has brought me through the hard things in life. Sometimes I can get lost in my thoughts as I reminisce about the days gone by, but I am always brought back to the here and now. To the things that are happening right now in my life and in the world around me.
Sometimes I’d rather stay in that place of remembering.
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland…For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring and my blessing on our descendants.” Isaiah 43:18-19, 44:3-4
God is speaking to the past…the deliverance of His people from Egypt.
Forget the former things.
The deliverance of God’s people from Egypt was great, but I think that God is telling His people that the things that He has done for them in the past, as wonderful as they were, will pale in comparison to what He is going to do through His Son.
Other times I find myself fast forwarding in my mind to what it will be like when this world no longer looks like the world that we are a part of. When Jesus has come to claim His pure and spotless bride. When we will be reunited with loved ones, and most of all, be face to face with our Lord and Savior, but I am always brought back to the here and now.
Sometimes I’d rather stay in that place, thinking about the future.
God is speaking to the future…For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring and my blessing on our descendants.
What God has promised for us in the future should help us to live our lives for Him here and now. A place of perfect peace and rest free from the worries and strife of this world.
And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people and God himself will be with them and will be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Revelation 21:3-5
Oh what a day that will be.
These are the thoughts that I love to allow myself to get lost in.
To know and be confident in my place in Heaven with Him.
Just as God led the Israelites out of the wilderness and into the promised land, He too shall lead us.
But here we are…living in this world, here and now.
God also speaks to the present in these verses in Isaiah.
I am doing a new thing! I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Just as God provided for the Israelites He will also provide for us.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. My father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Enjoy the memories of what God has done in your life.
Look ahead with great anticipation of the wonderful things that He has for us in Heaven .
In the meantime, while we are in the here and now, always remember to keep God first and foremost. Go to Him for the answers that you are looking for, and always be ready to show the world around us the Way.
Always be grateful.
We are in the here and now.
Trust and obey.
