“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
This verse has always really challenged me. Probably because there are so many times when I ask God for things, but don’t seem to get an answer. So then it causes me to wonder…”Am I not praying properly? Am I not asking for things that are within the will of God?” Sometimes I even think, “Well, I guess that prayer was useless.” But you know, a lot of the times when I don’t get an answer, it’s mostly because I haven’t stopped and given God the time or space to answer me; or I haven’t been still in His presence long enough to hear from Him.
Maybe He has been trying to give me an answer, but I have been too busy.
I think probably more often than not, that’s it.
It’s not that God doesn’t want to answer, or that He’s too busy but in fact, it’s the complete opposite. He wants to answer and He is trying to, but I am too busy…even within my own mind…to hear Him.
How is one to “be still”?
What does that look like?
How do you really do that?
Even in the midst of all things stopping…in the midst of being isolated and social distancing, I still find myself struggling with that.
“Be still” I tell myself as my mind races.
I try to figure out how to not only do that but also how to actually hear from God.
Then I read the rest of that verse.
“Be still and KNOW that I am God.”
Maybe that’s it.
Maybe I just need to be quiet and turn my mind from all the other “stuff” that seems to clutter inside my head, and FOCUS on the fact that
HE IS GOD.
Maybe then I will be able to hear from Him. Maybe then I will hear Him giving me the answers that I have been praying for.
Maybe then I will find what it is I am seeking.
He is God.
He has so much for us.
So much He wants to share and show us.
So many things He wants to teach us about this life and life everlasting.
Maybe it’s on us.
Maybe we don’t take the time.
Maybe He is speaking.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
